Caroline Kawa, singer of the Toronto rock band Die Mannequin, has passed away at the age of 36.

Kawa was known as Care Failure in Die Mannequin. Details surrounding Kawa's death are unclear, but an obituary on Legacy.com confirmed her passing.

The obituary reads, "Beloved daughter of Ben and Susan. Spirited, spunky and fierce; sister, niece, cousin, granddaughter and friend to many. She consistently sought to see the best of the human spirit in all she came across. May we continue to see the best in each other in her memory. May her spirit now soar free of pain."

Die Mannequin released their first EP, How to Kill, in 2006, with Kawa handling most of the instruments herself. They went on to release a series of EPs and albums, most recently 2014's Neon Zero.

Kawa starred in 2010's Hard Core Logo 2, in which she played herself. Die Mannequin performed several songs on the soundtrack.

Kevvy, leader of the band Fake Shark and onetime bassist in Die Mannequin, posted a tribute to Kawa on Instagram, writing, "I'll miss you so much. You're the biggest bad ass, squaroline. I looked up to you as a performer and how you treated everybody with respect regardless of who they were or what they did for a living. Thank you for the millions of laughs and all the kindness and love."
