Winthrop Harbor Police Department and Winthrop Harbor Fire Department responded about 12:10 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023, to a report of a domestic disturbance in the block of 1300 Sheridan Road. Winthrop Harbor police officers arrived and found that a male victim had been struck by a vehicle and was still trapped underneath the vehicle.
The victim, who was unconscious and not breathing, was extricated from under the car by firefighters. He was then transported to Vista Medical Center East where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Cody Humphrey of Winthrop Harbor. On Monday, March 20, 2023, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary results indicate that Mr. Humphrey died from Blunt Force Injuries as a result of the incident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Winthrop Harbor Police Department, Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
