NEW DELHI: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Sunday began its three-day annual general body meeting at Samalkha near Panipat in Haryana by paying tribute to late Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, socialist leader Sharad Yadav and senior advocate Shanti Bhushan.
The organisation also paid homage to prominent political leaders and personalities who died in the past one year - the list contained more than 100 names.

The Sangh also paid tribute to late Heeraba, mother of PM Modi and BJD leader and former Odisha minister Nabakishore Das, who was killed by a police officer.
The RSS general body meeting will deliberate on how to create an atmosphere of social harmony, and on motivating people to perform their duties and making them self-reliant.
At the first session of the meeting, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale read out the names of noted personalities, including politicians, industrialists and artistes, who passed away in the past one year.
The inclusion of Mulayam Singh Yadav in the list holds significance as a large section of the Sangh and BJP have strong reservations against him for the firing on kar sevaks in Ayodhya during his government's tenure in Uttar Pradesh. However, the Modi government in January this year conferred Padma Vibhushan on the Samajwadi Party founder even as the move received flak from a section of BJP supporters.
Earlier at a press conference, RSS joint general secretary Manmohan
Vaidya said, "We are celebrating the 75th year of swadhinta (self rule). But what is the 'swa' in swadhinta? Swatantra (independent), swavalamban (self-dependence) and swadeshi (of one's own country). So, the idea is that India's policies should be formulated in the light of this 'Swa'."
Vaidya said there are 68,651 RSS training shakhas (units) across the country.
