EAST LANSING — At this time a year ago, Michigan State's Kamaria McDaniel could barely run.

McDaniel is reminded of that by videos from last February where she couldn’t make it down and back on the basketball court.

The thought of continuing her basketball career seemed like a dream then.

But McDaniel found her way back to the game she loves..

She’s been a factor as the leading scorer for the Spartans. And she was recognized Tuesday as one of three MSU players selected honorable mention All-Big Ten.

“All of this is just extra,” McDaniel said following Tuesday’s practice. “God is showing up for me. This was not attainable or foreseeable for me just a year ago. I really hope that it can just inspire people and show people that anything is possible if you just keep working hard. That’s all I did was just put my head down and grinded. God is showing me favor, so it’s cool.”

McDaniel, who worked her way back after a torn meniscus suffered while at Baylor, had seven games with 20-plus points this season. The grad transfer guard, who is averaging 13.7 points, was a first team All-Big Ten selection in the 2019-20 season when she played for Penn State .

Sophomores Matilda Ekh and DeeDee Hagemann also were honorable mention All-Big Ten selections. Ekh is averaging 12.3 points and ranks third in the Big Ten in 3-point field goals made per game (2.5) and 3-point field-goal percentage (39.8%).

Hagemann is averaging 8.7 points and ranks fifth in the Big Ten in assists at 5.0 per game.
