Maharashtra gears up for stormy session, 1st since EC move
MUMBAI: The budget session of the state legislature starting Monday is expected to be a stormy one both inside and outside the Houses as it is taking place days after the Election Commission awarded Shiv Sena name and bow-and-arrow symbol to the faction led by CM Eknath Shinde.
"There is anger among people in the way in which Shiv Sena name and symbol were given to the Shinde faction," said leader of the opposition Ajit Pawar, at a joint press conference of MVA on Sunday following a meeting to finalise the Opposition's strategy for the budget session which will end on March 24.

"The MVA is with Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray," he added.
With Shiv Sena (UBT) now having to establish its own name and symbol among voters, the results of the Kasba and Chinchwad bypolls is expected to set the tone for the state legislative session.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led party is expected to approach Speaker Rahul Narwekar for recognising their 16 MLAs as a separate faction who will sit on the opposition benches and also ask for a new office space in the Vidhan Bhavan complex. If Narwekar doesn't agree, this may lead to a face-off.
Sloganeering, protests, issuing of whips and walkouts are expected through the four-week session.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis will present his first budget as state finance minister on March 9. With BJP MLAs numbering almost three times more than Shiv Sena's, he will be tasked to perform a balancing act as the state government will also have to bear the cost of filling up 75,000 vacancies and the old pension scheme, which the teaching community wants implemented.
The government is also likely to introduce its law against 'love jihad' and get the Lokayukta amendment bill passed in legislative council.
