Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Plot and Inspiration
Writer Terry Matalas revealed that Season 3 of Picard is ‘incredibly different’ from the previous two seasons. So what can fans expect to see in season 3? Being a concluding season, we can expect Picard’s story to reach a satisfying ending and fans were excited by the prospect of members from The Next Generation joining Picard in honoring his legacy.
Matalas also suggested that Season 3 is going to tie together other narratives and storylines that have been littered throughout the Star Trek franchise, particularly elements from the movie, Star Trek: The Original Series. Another major touchstone for season 3 was Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the main inspiration being the mind games between Picard and a major villain. Since, The Wrath of Khan, is considered one of the best Star Trek movies of all time, fans should be excited.
The official synopsis discusses how Picard has been drawn into the ‘most daring missions of his life’ after receiving a message from a ‘long-lost friend’. Picard is going to have to face the legacy of his past and try to steer the fate of the federation into safer waters than where he found it.
Stark Trek Picard: Season 3 Cast
As mentioned, there are plenty of characters from The Next Generation appearing in season 3. Fans can expect to see Next Generation co-stars such as Gates McFadden (Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Troi), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), Michael Dorn (Worf), LeVar Burton (La Forge), and Brent Spiner (Lore). Although Sirtis, Spiner and Frakes have all made fleeting appearances in the last two seasons, this is potentially the last time we will ever see them again as Matalas has discussed how much of a privilege ‘giving them a proper send’ would be. However, this is Star Trek after all, so anything can happen, and a character can return at the drop of a coin.
We can expect to see some new characters introduced, like Liam Shaw, captain of the USS Titan who is portrayed by Liam Shaw. Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut will be playing La Forge’s eldest daughter, Sidney and Amanda Plummer is playing a very interesting role, the main antagonist of the season, Vadic, who will be caught up in numerous mind games with Picard.

For all Trekkies out there, make sure you have renewed your Paramount+ subscription, as the first episode of the season aired on the CBS-owned streaming platform on February 16. New episodes are expected to be released each week and there are 10 episodes in total.
