After moving on from Derek Carr this offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders still have a huge question mark in terms of their 2023 QB1.

For the Las Vegas Raiders, the 2023 offseason will bring changes up and down the roster, but none bigger than at the quarterback spot. Derek Carr spent nine seasons as the starter for the Silver and Black, and while wins were hard to come by, he was a consistent player who hardly ever missed a game.

Now, the Raiders have to find a way to not only move on from him, but possibly upgrade the position, especially after a six-win season in 2022. Josh McDaniels was terrible in his first season , and after being run out of Denver in Year 2 of his first stint as a head coach, the same fate could be coming if the Raiders struggle once again in 2023.

That is why getting the quarterback position right this offseason is so important, but heading into March, are the Raiders running out of options?

Raiders have a gaping hole at the quarterback spot

As of February 23, only Chase Garbers remains on the roster, which is a scary thought for a franchise that has been to the playoffs only twice in their last 20 years. Las Vegas has been rumored to be in on numerous quarterbacks this offseason, and as Aaron Rodgers comes out of his darkness retreat, we will get a good idea of whether or not he will be coming to the desert.

There is also a chance Las Vegas drafts a quarterback in 2023, but they could be better off going with a stopgap veteran, like Jacoby Brissett or Jimmy Garoppolo next season, and look to a talented 2024 group of signal-callers.

Either way, there is no clear path or answer right now, and recently, David Ziegler said on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast there is may be ‘no immediate answer’ coming. Carr was an above average NFL quarterback, and as of now, it looks like whoever comes in 2023 will be a downgrade, which would have a huge ripple effect on McDaniels and the franchise
