- Liverpool 2-5 Real Madrid: Reds are TORN APART by Champions League holders
- RECAP: Liverpool are RIPPED APART as Vinicius and Benzema both run riot
- 'F*** UEFA!': Liverpool fans vented their fury ahead of Real Madrid clash
Holders Real Madrid produced a stunning comeback from two goals down to earn a devastating 5-2 victory againast Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.
In a re-run of last year's final, the first half was played at a ferocious pace, with the hosts racing into a fourth-minute lead through a superb Darwin Nunez flick. Anfield erupted 10 minutes later when an horrendous miscontrol from Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois left Mohamed Salah with the simple task of slotting the ball home to make it 2-0.
Real quickly turned things around, with Vinicius Jr. scoring one sublime strike and one fluke goal after another goalkeeping mistake to level the match by half-time. A bullet Eder Militao header completed the turnaround for Real early in the second half, sapping all the life out of Anfield in the process.
The hosts' misery was not done there, however, as Karim Benzema's double ensured Liverpool shipped five goals at home for only the third time this century in all competitions, leaving them with a monumental task to reach the quarter finals.
Sportsmail's DOMINIC KING takes a look at some of the things you may have missed from Anfield.

Mohamed Salah became the club’s all-time top goalscorer in European competitions
UEFA feel full force of Anfield fury
IF UEFA were in any doubt about the depth of feeling towards them at Anfield, it was removed before kick-off.
The ferocity of the booing and whistling that drowned out the Champions League anthem created an atmosphere unlike most European games here. On the Kop, there were plenty of banners, too, one which simply declared: ‘UEFA liars.’
This was always going to be an emotional night, given the proximity of this contest to the findings of the independent inquiry into the chaos at last season’s final in Paris but, even so, the venom that accompanied the chanting and the fury that was aimed at UEFA was on another level.
Given how good Real Madrid were here, it might be the last time the anthem gets played at Anfield this season and — going on Premier League form — it might not be aired next year, either. Time, however, is unlikely to prove a healer here
Salah beats Gerrard's Euro record
It won’t mean much in the grand scheme but Mohamed Salah secured another piece of Anfield history, one that really shouldn’t be underestimated. A poacher’s goal took his European goal tally to 42, nudging the Egyptian ahead of Steven Gerrard in the all-time rankings.

Liverpool fans expressed their fury at UEFA ahead of kick off against Real Madrid at Anfield
Gerrard made his European debut in November 1998 and scored his final goal against Basle in a Champions League group game in December 2014. True, they play in different positions but for Salah to eclipse him in just over five-and-a-half years is staggering.
It is often said that Salah is obsessed with personal records but he was as shattered as any of his team-mates here. It will take some getting over and perhaps this is the final act of a once great side who now need major surgery.
Bajcetic is young Euro star
Stefan Bajcetic became the youngest player to start a Champions League match for Liverpool at 18 years and 122 days, half the age of the peerless Luka Modric in Real Madrid's stellar midfield.
This was a sobering night for the young man but from which he will undoubtedly learn. See the masterful Luka Modric's touchmap below.

Luka Modric's touchmap shows he was all over the pitch for Real Madrid in their 5-2 win

Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos (centre) was spotted mixing with fans in Liverpool
Legend Carlos joins Madrid fans
The travelling fans from Madrid enjoyed themselves in Liverpool's bars and clubs and the revelry was not confined to the rank-and-file.
On Matthew Street, the area synonymous with the Cavern Club, Roberto Carlos - a man familiar with Champions League success - was spotted holding court.
Not an easy place to escape, Matthew Street, when drinks are flowing. (56)
