Lorraine Pascal could not attend Spring Baking Championship season 7, and it's time to talk about how her absence impacted the series. The reasons were understandable, as travel restrictions increased around the time of filming, and American policies on stopping the viral spread of COVID-19 remained inconsistent. Still, something was missing from the installment, as well as the previous season of Holiday Baking Championship. It wasn't just that a portion of the show needed to account for social distancing and safe parameters. Viewers missed her soft voice (which stayed gentle during even the harshest critiques) and lofty praise.

Chef Lorraine, who was born and raised in the UK, is known for her firm yet fair criticism of the bakers, which set future Spring Baking Championship winners up for success. Lorraine actually had an illustrious career before her television appearances. After being hired as a model for Versace, Lorraine cultivated a career on the runway, and built a reputation in the cinema and cooking niches. With more than a few cookbooks under her belt (not to mention three shows), she has certainly left her mark on the culinary industry. Her YouTube videos show that she's comfortable in front of the camera, no matter the situation or context.

Spring Baking Championship's Lorraine Judged Fairly

Generally, on the show, while giving critiques, Lorraine provided frank but gentle comments. She knew her scones, thus setting the standards high for the braver contestants, but her tone would change course if she got that proper buttery texture. Lorraine's kindness stands in contrast to Gordon Ramsay and other celebrity chefs from the UK, such as Paul Hollywood. Both reserve their positive comments until someone truly earns them, and they will sometimes demonstrate more than a stiff upper lip when a dish displeases them. Lorraine also made it clear that she wanted every baker to succeed in each challenge.

Spring Baking Championship's Lorraine Has Not Returned

While Lorraine is certainly missed, the new blood on the show was more than ready to rise to the occasion. Kardea Brown took Lorraine's place as judge, with a big smile, as well as a cheerleading attitude for the contestants. She always looks forward to what they make, and keeps her critiques mild, even if she doesn't like a dish. Unfortunately for fans of Lorraine, she has yet to return for seasons 8 or 9 of Spring Baking Championship, hosted by Jesse Palmer. The reasoning for Lorraine's absence hasn't been made clear, but continuing caution over COVID-19 can't be ruled out.

Fans will miss Lorraine's distinct personality, as well as her ability to balance out the fun of Spring Baking Championship with some strict guidelines for baking perfection. Perhaps she could return in the future, when traveling is less risky. Better yet, it would be great if she and Kardea could host a show together, as both women bring the positivity that fans love.
