Lawyer William Consovoy died Monday night, according to a statement from his law firm. The attorney, whose legal history included two oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court, has left a mark on the growing conservative legal movement via successful challenges to the nation’s civil rights laws.

The firm statement did not include a cause of death. But his law firm partner, Thomas McCarthy, said in 2022 that he was being treated for brain cancer.
