A sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time, The Way of Water is written and directed once again by James Cameron, set more than a decade after the original Avatar, and follows Jake and Neytiri's Na'vi family as they protect themselves from the various dangers on Pandora. Avatar: The Way of Water has already received two trailers teasing the sequel's stunning underwater action. Now, the customary third and final trailer has arrived.

While the original Avatar followed Jake's introduction to the forest-dwelling Omaticaya clan, the sequel is shifting focus to the water-dwelling people of Pandora. Early on in the final trailer, Jake turns to the water tribe, the Metkayina clan, to try and keep his family safe. Based on the trailer, it appears the Sully family are seeking refuge away from the Resources Development Administration. The mining operation was introduced in the first Avatar and is back again in the sequel with its security force led once again by Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).

Despite being killed by Neytiri in the first Avatar, Quaritch was brought back to life by the RDA by becoming a Recombinant, an avatar embedded with the memories of a human soldier. Thus, Quaritch remembers Jake siding with the Na'vi in the first film and will be seeking revenge against him and his family in the sequel. The final Avatar: The Way of Water trailer reveals just a small taste of the RDA's all-out assault on the Metkayina clan.

From the early days of Avatar: The Way of Water's marketing campaign, it was clear that Cameron's sequel was centered around two main conceits – water and family. The sequel's stunning underwater action, which Cameron and his company spent significant time developing new technology for, is on full display in the final trailer, as is the film's familial themes, which will be the driving force behind the conflict. With Avatar: The Way of Water's final trailer making its last pitch to audiences, the only thing left to do is wait and see if the highly-anticipated sequel lives up to the immense hype.
