3 Tips For Staying Organized In IT

Share

If you work in IT, whether you’ve been working as an IT help desk professional for years or have just recently started in this field, being able to stay organized is going to help you in your career so much. Because you’re constantly going to have to be juggling managing your own task list and the tasks that are then given to you by manager or coworkers, finding ways to stay organized and keep everything functioning how it needs to be is vital. And if you normally have a hard time with this, there are things you can do to help make this a little bit easier for you.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for staying organized in IT.

Input Everything As A Help Ticket

When you have your own projects and objectives that you’re working on, using a task management system, be it the one that your whole organization uses or one that you feel is better suited to your personality, is going to serve you very well. But when you’ve given additional tasks on top of these bigger projects, it’s vital that you find a way to keep all these other pulls on your attention organized.

One easy way to do this is to input everything as a help ticket. If people reach out to you through the IT help desk, these tickets will automatically be created. But if someone tries to ask for your help without going through the help desk, ask them to create the ticket so that you can keep yourself organized and stay on top of all the work you’re trying to accomplish. Otherwise, it’s easy for things to get lost or forgotten.

Learn How To Better Manage Your Time

With so many things that need your attention, it can be hard to know how to allocate your time and effectively manage that time that you do spend on things.

To help make this a little easier, try to find ways that you can better use and manage your time at work. This might include setting aside time to address things that come up during the day while also allocating specific blocks of time for bigger tasks that you need to get done for the IT department.

Use Your IT Team Effectively

If you’re part of an IT team and not solely taking on all of the IT responsibilities, you should challenge yourself to learn how to use your team effectively. While you may prefer to do everything yourself so that you know it’s done right, you have to be able to trust your team and lean on them in order to stay organized and get all of the necessary work done.

If you’re needing to be better at stay organized in your role as an IT professional, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you with this.
