Dua Before eating food

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Bismillah

In the Name of Allah

اللّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا ، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana wa-qina adhaban-naar. Bismillah

O Allah! Bless the food You provided us and save us from the punishment of the Hellfire. In the Name of Allah

ibn as-Sunni

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنا فِيهِ وَ اَطْعَمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ

Allahumma barik lana feehi wa at'imna khairan minhu

O Allah! Bless us in it and provide us with better than it

at-Tirmidhi; 5:506

Dua On forgetting to say the dua before food

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي اَوَّلِهِ وََآخِرهِ

Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa aakhiri

In the Name of Allah, in the beginning, and in the end

Abu Dawud; 3:347, at-Tirmidhi; 4:288

Dua After eating food

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى اطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا ، وَجَعَلنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

Alhamdulilahil ladhi at'amana, wasaqana, waj'alna min-al Muslimeen

Praise be to Allah Who has fed us and given us drink and made us Muslims Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, ibn Majah

الْحَمدُ للَّهِ الَّذِي اطْعَمَنِي هَذَا ، وَرَزَقَنِيهِ ، مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلا قُوَّةٍ

Alhamdulilahil ladhi at'amani haadha, wa razaqaneehi, min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwatin

Praise be to Allah who has given me this food, and sustained me with it, though I was unable to do it and powerless

Dua After Eating at Someone’s House

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ

Allahumma barik lahum feema razaqtahum, waghfir lahum, war hamhum

O Allah! Bless them in what You have provided for them, and forgive them and have Mercy on them

Muslim; 3:1615

اللَّهُمَّ اطْعِمَّ مَنْ اطْعَمَنِي وَاسْقِِِ ِ مَنْ سَقَانِيِ

Allahumma aT'im man aT'amani, wasqi man saqani

O Allah! Feed him who fed me and give him drink who gave me to drink

Muslim; 3:126

Dua After drinking Milk

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِِكْ لَنا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ

Allahumma baarik lana feehi wa zidna minhu

O Allah! Bless us in it and give us an increase of it

Etiquettes Before And After Eating Food

Eating etiquettes of Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) or eating Habits, are the epitome for all Muslims around the world. Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) taught eating etiquette. these are something that we should follow

  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) never questioned the meal He used to get at home. He ate the food whenever it arrived whether it was His favorite of the one He disliked.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) never declined to eat cooked meals.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) also never demanded unavailable food.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) always thanked Allah (SWT) before eating. Perhaps not only at the time of eating, but Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) always thanked God at every moment. Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) would follow Bismillah to start it, which is the famous Sunnah.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) always completed His meals by praising Allah Almighty. Along with eating, Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) ended his every work by praising Allah.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) loved honey and other sweets.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to eat bread with vinegar, oil, or dates.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) adored dates and milk.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to eat different types of fish and meat.
  • Among fruits, the Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) loved and adored watermelon a lot.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to settle down on the floor in order to eat His meals.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to involve His three fingers only while eating.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to share whatever He is eating with the person sitting next to Him.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) never leaned during eating the meal.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) never drank water whilst standing. Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) preferred to sit at first. He also forbade the Muslims to have water while they are standing and suggested them to drink while sitting.
  • Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to tighten His stomach by tying rocks along to prevent hunger and months would pass without a single food being cooked at His (PBUH) house. Though Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) wasn’t poor, He had the world’s richest people only under His single request to Allah. Still, He opted for a humble lifestyle and always kept the temporary world in His mind.
