Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 7:38 p.m. Sunday, October 02, 2022 to a report of a garage fire in the block of 300 East Hawthorne Street in Arlington Heights. Firefighters on arrival discovered a detached garage fully-involved with fire that was located at the back of the property.

Firefighters led out with a skid, and Engine 2’s crew set up a water supply from a fire hydrant. Tower 1 was at the front of the house with a long driveway between Engine 2 and Tower 1 parked at the street. A 2-1/2 inch line was used on the fire, then a 1-1/4 inch line was used for hot spots and washdown.

The fire was extinguished by about 7:53 p.m.

Nicor was requested to the scene to secure a gas heater in the garage.

Two vehicles were destroyed by fire at the scene — apparently both vehicles were parked inside the garage. Loss of the garage, vehicles and contents is estimated at about $150,000. The detached garage is located about 45 feet from the house on the property, and about 60 to 70 feet from the nearest neighbor’s house. The garage fire was extinguished before any damage occurred to the house on the property and the neighbor’s house to the west. It did not appear that firefighters needed to wet down nearby structures to protect the structures.

Arlington Heights police officers assisted with traffic control and pedestrian safety at the fire scene.
