Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Highland Park responded about 12:02 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2022 to a smoke investigation call in the block of 2700 Western Avenue in Highland Park. Upon arrival firefighters discovered a possible basement fire. Firefighters upgraded the call to a “Confirmed Fire” by 12:06 p.m.

Smoke was showing from a first floor window by the driveway on the left side of the house (left when facing the front of the house). The fire was possibly located in the basement. Firefighters did not need to cut holes in the roof to ventilate the house, but were close to making a decision to ventilate the roof. Windows were broken for ventilation. A Tower Ladder main was raised to access the roof.

Firefighters from Deerfield-Bannockburn, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Northbrook were assigned mutual aid.

Firefighters rescued a cat from the home. Initially it was unknown whether any residents were home at the time of the fire call.

Also, there were no reports of any injuries.
