BY POPULAR DEMAND - Alternative legal services provider Lawyers On Demand (LOD) has opened an office in New York City, its first in the U.S., in collaboration with legal technology consultancy SYKE, Law.com International’s Jack Womack reports. LOD co-founder Simon Harper said that the office would cater to the provider’s American clients, which include tech, media and energy companies. The company already has a presence in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the U.K. New York is the company’s 10th office overall. Speaking to Law.com International, Harper described it as “the last big piece of the puzzle” for the company, adding: “It’s really important to us that this is a U.S. office, not just a New York office.” Harper said that it was important not to underestimate the scale of the market: “The U.S. is the world’s biggest legal market by some margin. There are plenty of examples of U.K. businesses saying they’ll crack the U.S., and then the achievement doesn’t match the early bravado.”
