AMPANG: Police have solved four more cases of car theft with the arrest of a male Myanmar national on Monday (Aug 29).
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said three of the cars were reported stolen in Ampang while another in Cheras. The stolen vehicles were recovered in Pandan Jaya.
"The suspect has been remanded until Thursday (Sept 1).
"We believe he has been involved in various car thefts targeting old car models such as Proton Iswara," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Aug 30).
The suspect has four previous criminal records and also tested positive for methamphetamine, he added.
"We believe the suspect is involved in several car thefts in Ampang.
"He often targets old car models parked in secluded areas," he said.
The case is classified under Section 379A of the Penal Code, he added.
On Monday, a 24-year-old male Myanmar national was detained in connection with stealing a car in Pandan Perdana.
The owner of a Proton Iswara had lodged a report that his car was stolen at about 9am on Sunday (Aug 28).
ACP Mohamad Farouk had said an investigation led police to a parking lot at Taman Seri Taming in Kajang, where they managed to detain the suspect at about 1am on Monday.
The stolen vehicle was also recovered.
