AMPANG: A 34-year-old woman was detained in connection with the death of her six-month-old baby boy.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the woman, a shop assistant, was arrested at the lobby of Hospital Tunku Azizah at about 8.40pm on Monday (Aug 29).

"The baby was brought to the hospital's emergency room unconscious due to vomiting and seizure.

"Doctors also noticed bruises on his thigh and eyebrows and suspected abuse," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Aug 30).

The suspect denied she had murdered her son and she claimed the bruises on the baby were a result of a recent fall, he said.

"She has no previous criminal record and she also tested negative for drugs," he added.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said the police were also looking for the suspect's 31-year-old Indonesian husband.

"The victim was the couple's third child.

"We are investigating the matter further," he said.

He also urged those with information to contact Ampang Jaya police headquarters at 03-42897222.
