PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will discuss increases in rail cargo with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said this is to find ways to increase usage of rail cargo services in places where utilisation is still low.
"I will ensure that the needs of the logistics sector are met (so as to) give benefits to the people in general.
"The demand for rail cargo service is high but there is still a low supply of locomotives and wagons to fulfil the needs of the market," he said on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 28) after visiting the Gurun KTMB rail service.
"For now, there are 13 commuter train services and two ETS trains which stop in Gurun every day," he added.
Dr Wee also surveyed the cargo service (ammonia fertiliser) which is handled by KTMB for PETRONAS from the Gurun station to Seberang Prai, twice a day.
"I received feedback from KTMB Gurun and will ensure any weaknesses are rectified," added Dr Wee.
