Google Cloud has hired Dominick Delfino, previously Nutanix’s chief revenue officer, to lead global cybersecurity sales.

Delfino shared the news in a LinkedIn message: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as global vice president — cybersecurity sales.”

We couldn’t reach Delfino for further comment as of press time.

Google Cloud is on the heels of closing its $5.4 billion acquisition of Mandiant. Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice gave the go-ahead for the acquisition to proceed.

The acquisition will widen the scope of Google Cloud’s security services by bringing in Mandiant’s deep threat intelligence resources.

“We can confirm that Dominick Delfino has joined Google Cloud as our new vice president of security sales,” said Google Cloud spokesperson Daniel Gabis.

Long History with VMware, Cisco

Delfino has more than 20 years of sales experience leading global software sales and system engineering teams. Before Nutanix, he was Pure Storage’s chief revenue officer. In addition, he led sales and systems engineering at VMware, and data center and virtualization technology strategy at Cisco.

In his new role, Delfino will lead and implement global go-to-market (GTM) strategies within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) cybersecurity products. He’ll work closely with marketing, demand management, customer success, and product and engineering teams to serve Google Cloud customers.

Also on Wednesday, Google Cloud announced new detection solutions as part of its analytics initiative in the Chronicle SecOps suite. The new offering will help security teams that are inundated with tools, alerts and complexity to more quickly detect and respond to a wide variety of threats, enhancing their efficiency and better protecting their organization.

“With this launch, security teams can smoothly leverage Google’s expertise and unique visibility into the threat landscape,” Google Cloud wrote in a blog. “This release helps understaffed and overstressed security teams keep up with an ever evolving threat landscape, quickly identify threats, and drive effective investigation and response.
