NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort as India celebrates its 76th Independence Day.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before addressing the nation at the Red Fort in Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day. He also unfurled the Indian national flag on this historic day.
PM Modi while addressing the nation congratulated all the Indians on this Independence Day and said it is a day to step towards a new direction with a new resolve.

Tribute to freedom fighters
*There was not one year where our freedom fighters did not face brutality and cruelty during our freedom struggle. Today is the day when, as we pay them our respects, we need to remember their vision and dream for India.
*Our country is grateful to Gandhiji, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan, Rani Laxmi Bai, Subash Chandra Bose, Tatya Tope and all other freedom fighters who shook the foundations of the British Empire.

*Adivasi freedom fighters such as Birsa Munda, Tirot Singh and Alluri Sitarama Raju played a pivotal role in keeping the freedom struggle alive in every corner of India.
*Nation is remembering those who made sacrifices but were forgotten and not given their due.
India birthplace of democracy
*As we celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, we need to also salute our soldiers, police forces, and most importantly every citizen who combated many challenges and yet worked towards the vision of New India.
