In April, the Belgian singer Angèle wore the first of her Chanel custom costumes for her Nonante-Cinq Tour. Today, the house has released a 10-minute film directed by Loïc Prigent, which goes behind the scenes with the costumes.

Chanel creative director Virginie Viard worked with Angèle on each of her stage outfits, which were inspired by Chanel’s spring–summer 1995 ready-to-wear collection. Adaptations had to be made, as Angèle needed to be able to dance in them on stage. Prigent followed both women, looking at the costumes’ creative process where the two exchanged ideas and had fittings, the tour preparation, and remaining with Angèle backstage at her first concert at the Reims Arena and her performance on a very rainy June day at the We Love Green festival in Paris.

‘When I talk to Virginie, I feel like we know each other, we understand each other, and it’s easy. She’s such a precious personality for this kind of project. It was a real collaboration, which made it a human experience and an incredible adventure. In fact it was this bond and the discussions about our shared desires that made it possible to create these costumes for my tour. Wearing unique designs on stage, imagined by Chanel with this ’90s inspiration that means so much to me … I couldn’t have imagined better,’ said Angèle.
