JEMPOL: Police have arrested a couple and their 21-year-old daughter to assist in a probe into the alleged abuse of a five-year-old girl here.
District police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the trio gave themselves up at the Bandar Seri Jempol station just before midnight.
"We will apply for an order from the court on Monday (Aug 1) to remand them," he said.
The 42-year-old male and his 41-year-old wife are the victim's grand-uncle and aunt.
Supt Hoo said the male suspect has a record of criminal offences and one drug related.
All three live in Taman Sri Mahsan in Bahau.
Yesterday (July 29), Supt Hoo said police started a probe after receiving a report from the victim's mother on Wednesday (July 27), claiming that the girl had been abused.
He said police were unable to contact the trio as they went missing before the report was lodged.
Investigations, he said, revealed that the victim had suffered injuries, swellings and burn marks and had old scars all over her body.
He said the victim's mother sent the girl to the couple to be cared for as she worked in another state.
She also paid the couple RM300 a month to look after the girl.
Supt Hoo said the alleged abuse started on May 26 and the victim was rescued by another aunt.
The victim has since been warded at Hospital Kuala Pilah for treatment, he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Offenders can be fined up to 20 years or jailed up to 10 years or both upon conviction.
