Two long-time Dawson County newspapers will no longer be publishing.  Barb Bierman Batie, a news correspondent for the Tri City Tribune, shared the news in a Facebook post Friday that the Tri City Tribune and Gothenburg Times would be ceasing publication immediately.  The publisher, Platte Valley Media, informed staff on Friday.

The history of the Gothenburg Times dates back to 1908.   Greg Viergutz and his father Vance purchased the paper in 1977 and operated it until 2015 when Greg and his wife Kathi sold the paper to Platte Valley Media.

The Tri City Tribune was founded by Dean Dorsey in 1965.  It was also acquired in recent years by Platte Valley Media.

Syndicate Publishing was formed in 2019 and is owned by Colten Venteicher and John Bell of Gothenburg.   They launched the Gothenburg Leader newspaper in the community.  They also began publishing the Cozad Local and also acquired the Callaway Courier and Minden Courier in recent years.
