How to import an IFC file in AutoCAD?

The standard plain version of AutoCAD does not offer the option of importing BIM files in the IFC format (.ifc, buildingSmart specification), nor a method of representing specific types of IFC objects (IfcWall, IfcDoor, IfcWindow, IfcStair, IfcColumn, etc.) in a DWG file.

However, the professional AEC versions of AutoCAD - AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP, both are also part of the AutoCAD license - do include the standard internal IFCIMPORT command that you can use to import .ifc files. Similarly, beside reading, there is also the export command for writing IFC files.

Other options for importing IFC into AutoCAD (or into DWG) are the Autodesk Revit, Revit LT, Civil 3D or Navisworks applications (parts of the AEC Collection suite). By loading an IFC file into Navisworks and saving the it in the NWD/NWC format, you can then import, resp. reference such files in plain AutoCAD, see the COORDINATIONMODELATTACH command.
