CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After the nationwide Solar Winds Cyber breach in 2021, entities like the Department of Defense, the Pentagon and Microsoft were paralyzed due to bad actors affecting their information access.

Now experts are reiterating the need for cyber security.

According to Rocky Mountain Cyber Security owner, Elmer Robinson, 60 percent of businesses fail after a data security breach and must guard against them.

Robinson says most businesses believe anti-virus software and firewalls are enough to protect them, but they don’t understand how the playing field has changed.

Or how the changed landscape has opened businesses to risks and security gaps.

“Unfortunately businesses are not hearing that message. They don’t know there was a dramatic change, and they are still doing the same things they did before. Those things were largely inadequate before and now they are not even close,” said Robinson.

Experts say that after a cyber security breach, when businesses did pay the ransom, they only get their data back about 65 percent of the time.

This is especially important as experts fear for the future of our economy and international bad actors.
