The dining team at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif., is now providing meals to the nearby Gregory Bunker Care Transitions Center of Excellence, which serves people who are facing homelessness and are recovering from illness after being discharged from the hospital.
UC Davis has been providing the center with three meals each day since March, so far supplying around 15,000 meals.
The meals are the same ones served to UC Davis patients. Once the items are prepared at the hospital’s kitchen, they are transferred via truck to the center.
Officials believe the partnership will save the center at least $1 million a year in food costs.
