National Herald case: Sonia Gandhi asks for 3 weeks to appear before ED
NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was supposed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the National Herald case on Wednesday, has sought three more weeks as she is still suffering from Covid-19, sources said. They added that the agency has not yet replied to the request.
The Congress president had tested positive on June 2. "She is still Covid positive as per her latest test report.

Her repeat test will be done in due course but doctors have advised her to take rest," said sources.
Former party chief Rahul Gandhi will be appearing before the ED on June 13 in connection with the money laundering case pertaining to the National Herald-AJL deal. He had been asked to appear before the agency on June 2 but sought a fresh date as he was abroad at the time.
The Congress has termed the charges "fake and baseless" and added that the summons to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi was part of the BJP's "vendetta politics".
The Congress had said its leaders would appear before the ED as they had nothing to hide from the probe agency, and that the BJP should learn lessons from it.
The case pertains to the probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the party-promoted Young Indian that owns the National Herald newspaper. The paper is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian Pvt Limited.
Officials said the agency wanted to record the statements of the Gandhis under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
