BSF) foiled a cross-border smuggling bid after the seizure of around 10 kg heroin valued at around 74 crore in the international market following the shooting down of a Pak drone flying inside Indian territory on late Sunday night.
Bhupinder Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) , BSF, Amritsar sector informed media persons on Monday that BSF troops deployed along the Indo Pak border near Bharopal Border out Post heard the humming of a drone flying around 300 meters above the ground following which they fired 9 shots towards the drone besides an illumination bomb was also fired.
Following the search of the area, BSF recovered a hexacopter, 9 packets of heroin weighing around 10.67 kg, and four batteries in a bag having a Pakistan government stamp.
“This is our fourth seizure of drone but the first seizure of drone and drugs together by BSF,” said the DIG adding that a bag containing drugs was hanging with the drone.
The smugglers had fitted the hexacopter with additional four batteries to enhance its flying time. He said the search was still continuing along with police and other sister agencies.
Sources in BSF informed that in the recent past the incidents of drone intrusion all along the Indo Pak international border in
Punjab had increased. The government was yet to install the anti-drone technology on the border. Presently, sources informed that the drone movement was detected with its humming or by visual spotting following which BSF jawan shot towards the drone which either flee back to Pakistan or were brought down.
“This hexacopter was also intercepted by the BSF jawan and couldn’t reach its destination, “ said the DIG.
Earlier on May 6, BSF troops had recovered one packet of heroin weight 510 grams from near Indo Pak international border in the Amritsar sector.
