KEMABONG: Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar said a variety of international-level activities will make Kemabong a world-class tourist destination.

He said in the year 2020, an array of culture and environment oriented activities will be introduced to tourists who visit Kemabong. “It is one of the proactive steps for the year-round Visit Tenom 2020 program, focused on attracting tourists when promoting Visit Tenom 2020.

“It can also introduce Kemabong as a new world tourism destination with the concept of tropical forests that are still original, unpolluted and home to clear waters and rivers within a protected environment,” he said.

Two new tourism centres will continue to be introduced, the Marais Center and the Highland Rundum which are becoming increasingly popular with tourists around the world.

He said this during the Borneo Safari Sabah International Offroad Challenge (Oct 27-Nov 3) at the Kemabong Square Open, here, Wednesday.

On the programme, Jamawi said 1200 participants and 412 four-wheel drive vehicles participated in the competition.

He added that during the Borneo Safari 4X4 convoy, the participation of people from nine countries around the world and the selection of Kemabong as the destination of the race track was greatly appreciated and welcomed by the people here.

According to him, the sport and activities will also continue into the year ahead with the promotion of many international-level activities.

About two thousand people attended the event with various performances by Kemabong Idol artist as well as cultural performances.

Also present were Sabah Borneo Safari President Faiz Nordin, Kemabong Assistant District Officer Djamaluddin bin Kamaruddin, Kemabong Community Development Leader Bernly Balang, other community leaders and Borneo Safari media from Peninsular Malaysia.

Faiz, earlier in his speech, said the support of leaders and residents of every race destination during the safari was greatly appreciated.

“There are nine countries participating in this race, namely Japan, Russia, Indonesia, Brunei, England, Philippine, Spain, China and Malaysia, each participating in the race.

“In Kemabong, there are six racing contests out of the 18 overall games.

“We started from Track Super Hard Co Sipitang, to Kemabong forest reserve, then Mandalom to Kg Inandong to Tambunan and ended in Kota Kinabalu,” he said.
