4 Earth Day Tips for Becoming a More Sustainable Brand
For 52 years, people around the world have come together on April 22 to celebrate the environmental movement for Earth Day. From raising awareness to sparking action, the global event champions the businesses and individuals who proactively take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.
One business moving in the right direction is PLUS, a sustainable beauty brand that’s reimagining an entire industry with less waste, plastic and emissions. To dive deeper into their actions, we partnered PLUS Product Developer @amulyadeva, who shared 4 tips to help businesses begin their sustainability journey. Start learning below!
1 Educate
Sustainability is not a destination; it’s a constantly evolving landscape—it’s important to always be learning and sharing knowledge.
How to start: Research your industry’s environmental impact, both positive and negative, in order to educate your team and community.
2 Set goals
First, measure where you stand by taking a closer look at your business’ activities. Once you establish benchmarks, set goals to help mitigate your carbon footprint through reducing or recycling manufacturing and shipping materials. You can also partner with nonprofit organizations to help your business track its environmental impact.
How to start: Measure where you stand, then set goals and identify ways to hold yourself accountable.
3 Experiment
Being environmentally friendly and being fun don’t need to be mutually exclusive. Going green gives you an opportunity to experiment with new shipping materials, packaging and designs. Don’t be afraid to add color and magic!
How to start: Rethink your product packaging with sustainability in mind. Instead of kraft brown paper, use color to make your deliveries more unique.
4 Enjoy the journey
Sometimes the smallest actions can make the largest impact. Becoming a sustainable business is a continuous process that takes time. Strive to take steps in the right direction, regardless of their size.
How to start: Remember sustainability is a process and collective effort. Try making one small improvement at a time.
