Half of 83 new cases sporadic infections

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun cautioned the public against becoming complacent with standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance as cases rose to 83 on Wednesday with half being sporadic infections.“It is once again reminded that the rate of sporadic transmissions is still high, which is 54.2 per cent on Wednesday.

“Avoid being complacent in complying with all SOPs. Our success in the war against Covid-19 is highly subject to the attitude of the community itself,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
Despite the rise of cases to 83 from 79 the day earlier, Masidi said the Covid-19 situation in all districts is under control.
“A total of 13 districts recorded a rise in cases compared to nine that recorded a decrease. Except for Kota Kinabalu which recorded a fall of 13 cases, there are no significant changes in other districts,” he said.
He said two districts recorded double-digit figures, namely Kota Kinabalu (13) and Sandakan (10), while 16 districts recorded single-digit figures, of which 13 recorded only one to five new cases.

“There are no new cases in nine districts, namely Tambunan, Kuala Penyu, Telupid, Sipitang, Pitas, Beaufort, Tongod, Kalabakan and Putatan,” added Masidi.
One death was recorded in Kota Beludm while no new clusters were identified on Wednesday.

Masidi said the majority of cases were mild, with 80 out of 83 being category one and two infections.
“Two cases are in category four and one in category five. There are no category three infections,” he added.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, 3,514 took their vaccines on April 19, of which 730 were adults, 235 teenagers and 2,549 children.
