HK reports 747 COVID-19 cases

April 17, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 747 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 11 are imported and the rest are locally infected.

Among the new cases, 446 were detected by nucleic acid tests while 301 were identified via rapid antigen tests.

Since the onset of the fifth wave of the epidemic, 1,185,194 people have contracted the virus, involving 8,926 deaths.

Additionally, the Government made restriction-testing declarations to cover Ching Yun House of Ching Ho Estate in Sheung Shui, Ching Tak House of Tsz Ching Estate in Tsz Wan Shan and Tower 1, Wing Fok Centre in Fanling. People in the restricted areas must undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Given that there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Wong Tai Sin and Kowloon City, the Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleansing workers and property management staff working in such areas.

Furthermore, due to a number of positive cases, 40 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

The Government will set up additional mobile specimen collection stations at the badminton and basketball courts near Chun Sing House of Tin Ma Court in Wong Tai Sin, and at the open area outside Chung Shue House of Lei Muk Shue (II) Estate in Tsuen Wan tomorrow.

As Air India flight AI316 from New Delhi and Kolkata, India had three passengers on board who tested positive upon arrival, the Department of Health has prohibited the landing of the carrier’s passenger aircraft in Hong Kong from New Delhi and Kolkata from tomorrow until April 24.
