Cooperating with every state government, says Centre after Telangana CM announces paddy procurement
Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao
NEW DELHI: With Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announcing on Tuesday that his government will procure paddy from its farmers, the central government reiterated its position saying it’s cooperating with every state government without any exception. It said the Centre’s policies for procurement of food grain are uniform and consistent to ensure welfare of farmers all over India, including Telangana.
Telangana has been demanding procurement of paddy by the Centre.

But the Centre has maintained that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) procures only milled rice.
“The Centre remains totally committed to the welfare of all farmers. The procurement process across the country involves states acquiring paddy from farmers and providing it to millers who then mill it. The milled rice is procured for TPDS and OWS. The extra cost of milling is also borne by the central government. The Centre remains committed to buying raw rice with its uniform policy across the country. This policy, which is already working effectively, is uniform and non-discriminatory, and farmers across the country benefit equally from this policy,” said a central government source.
He added during a meeting held in February to discuss the arrangements for procurement of rice/ paddy of rabi crop, along with packaging issues for kharif marketing season 2021-22, the Telangana government did not propose any procurement estimate or packaging requirements. “The Centre has issued many reminders to the government of Telangana for submitting a proposal for procurement of raw rice during the ensuing KMS 2021-22. The government is still awaiting this,” the source said.
