NEW DELHI: The
BJP on Monday blamed the violence duing Ram Navami celebrations on
Rahul Gandhi's statements questioning the existence of Lord Ram as well as the "inciting" remarks of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, at a press conference, recalled the affidavit of the Congress-led UPA government questioning the existence of Ram Setu and Rahul's remark during a recent public address where he had said that he did not believe in reincarnation to accuse the
Congress leader of pretending to be a Hindu only for electoral considerations.
"If he does not believe in reincarnation, then how can be believe in Ram. He is only a 'chunavi (electoral)' Hindu", said Patra.
Patra also condemned Thackeray for his jibe at BJP that what issue the ruling party would have raised if Lord Ram was not born. Opposition leaders can find thousands of reasons to attack BJP but this is "petty politics", he said. "The way some leaders are questioning the existence of Lord Ram and are inciting people... This should not have happened.
Rahul Gandhi seems to be unable to tolerate that people in India have faith in Lord Ram," he said. TNN
