Another Towpath Trail section done, this one 2.7 miles in Tuscarawas County

Volunteers in Tuscarawas County helped construct a new boardwalk on the Towpath Trail. This new section in Summit County was built in 2009, making that county the first to complete its section of the trail.

ZOAR, Ohio -- Another 2.7 miles of the Towpath Trail will be dedicated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and Tuscarawas County Commissioners at the Canal Lands Trailhead located at 8645 Dover-Zoar Road in Zoar.

Ohio & Erie Canal Coalition President and CEO Dan Rice said that with this stretch completed, 84 of the Towpath Trail’s 101 miles are done.

Rice said there are 11 miles left to complete in Tuscarawas County, five in Cleveland and one more in Summit County, and the target year to complete the 101-mile trail is 2020.

More than 150 different volunteer groups worked eight Saturdays this year to build 300 feet of boardwalk to make it a walkable and bicycle friendly path.
