SIPITANG: Road users here want contractors to maintain road safety by providing visible road signs and direction marking that do not confuse vehicles.Rin Lorinah, a road user, expressed her dissatisfaction with contractors who only install ropes on the road. She said her husband (pic) was travelling from Sipitang to Kota Kinabalu on March 24 when he was involved in an accident at 4.58 am.

She blamed the collision on a rope strewn over Jalan Naluyan Mesapol, which had unclear and difficult-to-see road work signs. A police report has since been lodged at the Sipitang Police Station.

Her spouse is recovering at home while awaiting further treatment in Kota Kinabalu, which will keep him out of work for the next four to six months. “This has had an impact on our family’s financial status, especially with five children still in school,” she said on her Facebook. She alleged that the Public Works Department’s lax attitude toward restoring damaged roads has resulted in several accidents and that damaged roads are also left unattended. She cautioned fellow road users to be cautious, particularly given the number of damaged roads that have gone unrepaired and ready to claim lives.
