Hills Fleurieu inspector Michael Sampson said it was an 'isolated incident'.

'The 36-year-old male is the son of the deceased,' inspector Sampson said.

Resident Laura Plews described Ms Simon as a 'nice lady' who had a love for gardening.

'She liked to garden, she kept to herself and we didn't speak to her very much,' she told Adelaide Now.

'It is just heartbreaking, it's just horrible, having that happen so close, you know that it happens but for it to happen so close.

'I feel for her, especially if it was someone she knew would be just horrible.'

Neighbour Jake Stain said he had heard 'pretty serious domestic disputes' from the house.

'It's pretty hectic. It's like living in a Stephen King novel,' he told ABC.

'To just have it happen on your road in a pretty quiet, nice neighbourhood is pretty shocking really.'

The 36-year-old man was refused bail and will front Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police officers taped off the house as they carried out their investigation of the scene.
