An Illinois State Police Trooper discovered a serious crash involving two trucks and a passenger vehicle on I-94 WEST at Mile Marker 24 about 2:06 p.m. Thursday March 31, 2022. Additional Illinois State Police Troopers and firefighters and paramedics from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, Northbrook Fire Department and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded to the report of a crash with injuries on I-94 WEST (northbound) near Deerfield. The crash occurred about 1500 feet north of Deerfield Road.
The trooper discovered the crash in Lane 1 of I-94 WEST and called for EMS to expedite. A woman was found unresponsive with traumatic injuries in a Chevrolet passenger vehicle. Troopers began CPR immediately after the woman was discovered in the crash. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District paramedics were the first EMS crews on the scene. The woman was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi-trailer truck refused medical treatment. The status of the other truck driver was initially unknown.
Emergency vehicles shut down Lane 1 and Lane 2, and Illinois Tollway HELP trucks secured the closure of the two lanes during rescue and during the subsequent crash reconstruction operation.
An extended crash investigation was underway Thursday afternoon. With Lanes 1 & 2 closed, I-294 WEST (northbound) was backed up to Central Road near Glenview at 5:40 p.m. I-94 WEST (northbound) was backed up to Lake Cook Road at 5:40 p.m. The scene was clear by about 6:00 p.m.
An orange Freightliner semi-trailer truck and a Ford truck with a trailer were involved in the crash with the Chevrolet.
