How to Show You're a Woman-Owned Business on Instagram

Christina Brown founded LoveBrownSugar in 2009 as a "space for women of color to feel seen, appreciated and empowered." She’s one of countless business leaders who've used Meta technologies to help reach new customers and drive business growth. Part of this is sharing her story across social media, and in the video to the right, she shares tips for fellow founders and entrepreneurs who want to show that their businesses are woman-owned specifically on Instagram.

To celebrate Women's History Month, Meta has created a cultural guide that provides insights on the global challenges and opportunities for women in business, along with inspiration and actions for business leaders to follow in their journey to driving women's equality.

"Women face many headwinds when starting their businesses, including reduced opportunities to secure capital," says Michelle Klein, Meta's Vice President of Global Business Marketing. Her advice to young women who are just embarking on their entrepreneurial journey? "Persevere and find your community… As you build your business, turn each challenge you face into an opportunity where you can grow your idea and your community. You can't go wrong if you surround yourself with like-minded people or a mentor who can help guide you through these early stages of your business. And never forget: women-led small businesses are a force within their local and broader global economies. We need you, and you've got this."

For her, some especially inspiring woman-owned businesses include Denise Lim's FLO, which brings aromatherapy oils and diffusers to Singapore; Daniela Petroni's Puzzle Me in Sao Paulo, where 5% of proceeds go to women-owned NGOs; and Isis Asare's Sisah SciFi in Seattle, where you can find great reads by black and indigenous writers. Each of the women who own these businesses found a niche within their industries that will contribute to their local economies and create a space to strengthen their local communities.

"Women’s History Month should be celebrated every day of the year," Michelle says. "One of the best ways we can make the most of this month is to ensure women are not only celebrated but supported year-round."
