A potentially alarming situation in Benimarco

BENIMARCO, which straddles Teulada and Benissa, is quiet, peaceful and slightly off the beaten track.

A resident there, who preferred not to be identified, related recently how a white car  proclaiming the name of alarm company that sells its services in this area, recently pulled up outside their house,

“A guy was standing at the gate and I pointed out that we already had an alarm and security service as he could see by the sign on the gate,” the Benimarco property owner told the Euro Weekly News.

“He said, yes, but he might have a better deal and could he look around? I informed him that we were content with our existing service, and in fact had it upgraded recently.”

The would-be salesman left “but the fellow’s accent and general demeanour suggested he wasn’t Spanish,” the reader added, pointing out that it was unlikely that a security firm would send someone around to solicit clients without advance notice.

He added that the event reminded him of the phony Repsol “service” guys who come by from time to time or the Microsoft “consultants” who call from remote call centres, trolling for information.

“Whatever language they speak we reply in another, not very politely. Swedish or Serbian work quite well, we find!”
