General counsel have heard all the nightmare stories about the tight market for legal talent and the increasing salaries for Big Law associates who otherwise might be prime candidates for in-house positions.

But at the end of the day, they have jobs to fill, and many legal chiefs say they still have many avenues to pursue and carrots to dangle beyond the long-touted opportunity to help run a business, rather than just being an outside adviser.
