Six Injured in High-Speed Rear-End Crash I-90 WEST Near Arlington Heights

Illinois State Police and firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:36 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2022 to a report of a serious multi-vehicle crash with entrapment.

A Cook County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and confirmed the crash involved entrapment. Engine 3’s crew after arrival requested by 10:43 p.m. that three additional ambulances respond to the scene. Two additional Arlington Heights Fire Department ambulances were dispatched and a Rolling Meadows Department ambulance was dispatched.




Rescuers arrived to find a Pontiac G6 with severe rear-end damage, a pickup truck with severe front-end damage, and a black Nissan Rogue with lesser damage compared to the other two vehicles.

Arlington Heights fire command requested an EMS Box Alarm by 10:45 p.m. Firefighter/paramedics worked with extrication tools to free at least one person in a crashed vehicle. The crash was located on I-90 WEST at mile post 70.5. Illinois State Police troopers and Illinois Tollway HELP crews reported Lanes 1, 2 and 3 were down. Traffic was getting by on Lane 4.




Firefighters, while working on extrication, reported a child in a car seat was pinned in the back seat, and the child’s mother was also pinned in the vehicle. The entire trunk of the Pontiac G6 was compressed into the back seat passenger compartment area.

The mother of the children was extricated by about 10:51 p.m.

A total of three patients of Madison, Wisconsin were in the Pontiac G6, and were transported to area hospitals. One patient was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and the other three patients were transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

Geresa Homesly, a 26-year-old female from Madison, Wisconsin was transported with serious injuries;

a 1-year-old male was transported with minor injuries;

a 3-year-old male was transported with minor injuries;

Janikqua L. Homesly, a 22-year-old female, was transported with minor injuries).

Demetrius T. Jones Jr., 27-year-old male from Madison, Wisconsin, initially did not report any injured or refused medical treatment.

Two people in the Nissan Rogue were transported to Northwest Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Luis F. Martinez Zarazua, 41-year-old male of Roselle, was transported with minor injuries.

According to Illinois State Police District 15, a preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 2007 Pontiac G6 was stationary on the left shoulder of Interstate 90 WEST at milepost 70.5 before the crash occurred.

The driver of a gray 2020 Chevrolet Colorado struck the 2007 Pontiac G6 from behind, pushing the Pontiac G6 into the concrete barrier, and then both the Chevy Colorado and the Pontiac G6 ended up in the left lane of traffic (I-90 WEST). The driver of a black 2018 Nissan Rogue was unable to stop, and struck the rear of the Chevy Colorado pickup truck, according to Illinois State Police District 15. Video shows both the Pontiac G6 and the Chevy Colorado were positioned in Lane 1 and Lane 2 of I-90 WEST after the crash. The Chevy Colorado ended up facing the wrong in Lane 1 and Lane 2 beyond the position of the Pontiac G6.

The driver of the pickup truck, who did not request medical treatment, was identified as Justin A. Cook, age 30, from Chicago.
