U.K. private equity lawyers have expressed surprise after it emerged that Ropes & Gray’s London managing partner is undertaking a year-long secondment with private equity firm Bain Capital.

As part of a 12-month contract, Will Rosen is working with Bain to support its interim general counsel of European private equity, Linford Coates, according to a person at Ropes & Gray. Rosen has been Ropes & Gray’s sole London managing partner since January 2020, but was first appointed to co-lead the London office alongside Mike Goetz in 2018.
