A UK man reported his wife to police after hearing her sleeptalking following her crime.

According to the Mirror, Ruth Fort, 47, stole $7000 from a woman she was meant to be looking after at a care home in Merseyside.

Her husband, Antony, 61, became suspicious after she splurged thousands during a holiday in Mexico. Four weeks later he realised his suspicions were correct when he woke up to his wife talking about money, the Mirror said.

Her husband then found the care home resident's debit card in her purse.

"I had my suspicions when Ruth began over-spending. It was more of an instinct really, at first. But when I found the debit card in her purse, I just knew. It was heart-breaking," Antony said.

"I loved Ruth deeply, but I could not ignore what she had done. It was abhorrent to me that she could steal from a vulnerable person and I had to report her."

Ruth had told him previously that she had taken the resident out shopping and said the woman had almost $100,000 in her bank account.

"Something in the way she spoke just made my heart sink. I realised Ruth must have access to the card and pin number," Antony said, according to the Liverpool Echo.

He reported her to the police and Ruth was handed a suspended jail sentence of 16 months in 2021.

She appeared before Liverpool Crown Court this month after breaching her suspended jail sentence.
