Sabah’s Covid cases dip to 263; six deaths
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s daily Covid-19 cases fell below the 300 mark, Friday, with 263 recorded compared to 329 on Thursday.

Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said six deaths were reported, with one case each in Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Kinabatangan, Kota Belud, Kudat and Sipitang.

He said most districts recorded lower cases, with Kota Kinabalu remaining on top of the list with 47 cases, which showed a drop of 26 cases compared to Thursday’s figure.

“Tuaran recorded 27 cases (-5), followed by Penampang with 25 cases (-6) and Ranau 14 (-9).

“Beaufort recorded 18 cases (-10) and Tenom 16 cases (+5. Five districts did not record any new cases, namely Kalabakan, Tongod, Nabawan, Kunak and Semporna. Eleven other districts recorded below 10 cases,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Masidi said the opening of more economic activities increased interaction among the people, with social and recreational activities in full swing and gatherings inevitable. He hoped the people would continue to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), including wearing masks and practising physical distancing. “Self-discipline is important to reduce the risk of infection, especially when in a crowded place.

“This is because sporadic infections often occur in public or in groups. Statistics clearly show the percentage of sporadic infections is high on a daily basis. “In fact, the percentage of infections resulting from sporadic infections is 41.4pc and this figure is not much different from the percentage of the main contributor of infection that is close contact which recorded at 48.3pc,” Masidi said.

Of the 263 Covid-19 patients, Masidi said a total of 252 are in Category 1 and 2, four people in Category 3, two people in Category 4 and also two patients in Category 5 while three more cases are still under Sabah Health Department evaluation.

No new clusters were reported on Friday.
