CE mourns Hilton Cheong-Leen

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hilton Cheong-Leen, a former Urban Council and Legislative Council member.

 

She noted that Mr Cheong-Leen had actively participated in public services for a long time.

 

Being a member of the Urban Council for over 30 years, he was the first Chinese person to become the council's Chairman. He was also a LegCo member and commanded the respect of different sectors.

 

Mr Cheong-Leen was also committed to community services, particularly on the development of local education.

 

He actively promoted the construction of schools and implementation of free education and served in the Hong Kong Council of Early Childhood Education & Services for many years, making significant contributions to society.

 

“I am saddened by the passing of Mr Cheong-Leen. On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family,” the Chief Executive said.
