"It is a very sad day for all of us. Unfortunately, the dengue fever had led to meningitis, and Helberth passed away," the club's deputy president Dr K. H Tan was quoted as saying yesterday.
"He was first discovered when we were conducting a talent identification programme in Sipitang. He was only 16 at the time.
"He played a key role in five of Sabah's victories in the Agong's Cup and had also won three or four Super League titles with ERC.
"He was also one of three Sabah players in the national team alongside Nathanael Tan and Badrul Muktee."
