Funeral arrangements were announced Tuesday, December 28, 2021 for Chicago Fire Department Firefighter/EMT MaShawn Plummer of Engine 94, who died Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from injuries he suffered during a rescue operation in a basement apartment fire on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

A Chicago Fire Department memo from Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt announced the details for visitation and services scheduled for the first week of January 2022.

Chicago Fire Department firefighter MaShawn Plummer died from injuries he suffered last Thursday, December 16, 2021 in a fire in a 2-flat apartment building fire in the block of 3100 North Marmora Avenue in Chicago. Chicago firefighters responded about 2:06 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 to a basement fire at the apartment building next to St. Ferdinand Church in the Belmont Central neighborhood. MaShawn Plummer, 30, was transported to Community First Hospital with severe burns, and was transferred to the Loyola University Burn Unit. He suffered burns to his airway, and required endotracheal intubation to maintain his airway. He died Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Loyola University Burn Unit.




According to the Chicago Fire Department, MaShawn Plummer had just celebrated his 1-year anniversary on the job as a firefighter. Also injured at the fire scene were two men and a woman. All three suffered severe burns, and were also listed in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center. They were rescued by firefighters when they were trapped in the basement apartment.

02:28 AM – Still and Box Struck Out.

An EMS Plan 1, and Still & Box Alarm, and a Mayday were activated at the fire scene at 3138 N. Marmora when four adult patients (including firefighter Mashawn Plummer) were transported Code Red to hospitals nearby.

One of the other adults also died of injuries suffered at the fire on the same day as the fire.

Chicago Firefighter/EMT MaShawn Plummer, of Engine 94 joined the Chicago Fire Department in December 2020. Engine 94 was the first fire engine on the scene at 2:10 a.m. Firefighter MaShawn Plummer is scheduled to be transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office via Honor Procession from Loyola University Medical Center at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021. He leaves his mom, dad and four sisters.
