Man Hit by Passing Car While Assessing Damage from a Previous Minor Crash Near Route 60 and Fairfield Road Near Grayslake

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:30 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021, to a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash without injuries in the area of Route 60 and Fairfield Road, unincorporated Grayslake. While Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were responding, a 911 call was placed to sheriff’s telecommunicators indicating a pedestrian was just struck in the same area. Firefighters and paramedics from Greater Round Lake FPD were dispatched to the scene.




Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 28-year-old man of Round Lake Beach with critical injuries. Preliminary investigation shows the 28-year-old man was involved in the initial traffic crash. He was outside of his vehicle assessing damage and speaking to the other party involved in the minor crash, when he then crossed the street to return to his vehicle. While crossing, he was struck by a southbound 2002 Lexus IS300, driven by an 18-year-old man of Wauconda.

The pedestrian was treated by paramedics and transported via Round Lake FPD ambulance to Level 1 Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.




The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. The Speed Limit on Route 60 is 55 MPH according to Google Map Street View images on October 2018 and October 2019. The Speed Limit on Fairfield Road south of Route 60 is 45 MPH, according to Google Map Street View images on October 2019, 55 MPH north of Route 60, according to Google Map Street View images on November 2019.
